Head to Treviso Café for top-notch coffee and show-stopping pizzas

Since it opened the doors to its initial shop in Craighall, Treviso Café has been a staple on the Italian dining scene – not to mention a favourite with coffee addicts and pizza lovers alike.

Joburg is home to a plethora of Italian restaurants, but somehow the relaxed feel of this owner-run café and deli remains a firm favourite. The charm has always been because of the freshest possible gourmet sandwiches and thin-crust pizzas. Since relocating to a rooftop space in New Doornfontein, there’s another good reason to visit – (seriously) unbeatable views of the Joburg skyline!

Friendly and enthusiastic owner, Sergio, will make you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. Before we decided on what to eat, we sipped on delightfully foamy cappuccinos while taking in the breath-taking views. (And, yes, the coffees were totally Instagram-worthy … just in case you’re wondering!) Also on the drinks menu are freshly squeezed fruit juices, smoothies (give the mixed berry a try – it looks delish!), frozen coffees and more.

After much contemplation, we decided on pizza for lunch – is there anything more satisfying after a long, crazy busy week? The menu offers a simple yet oh-so-mouthwatering variety … think a classic Regina, to a margarita with ham, mushrooms, olives and artichokes. We choose the La Greca – the classic combo of bacon, feta and avo is always a crowd-pleaser.

The traditional thin crust bases of the pizza are lathered with authentic tomato base sauce and generously topped with super-fresh ingredients. There’s only one way to describe them … a large plate of cheesy goodness! Unfortunately, we don’t have any space left to indulge in further treats after lunch, but we do leave with a loaf of freshly baked sourdough bread, which goes down very well with olive oil and white wine later that day.

Treviso Café is quickly becoming a lunchtime go-to for freelancers and corporates alike. Make sure you pop in to try one of its show-stopping sarmies or pizzas the next time you find yourself in town! PS: Treviso Café offers free WiFi, making it the perfect coffice for freelancers. Plus, it’s unlicensed, so feel free to take your own booze! 4th Floor Morkel House, 31 Voorhout Street, New Doornfontein, Johannesburg.
