Enjoy high-in-the-sky views of Sandton City while lounging amongst soothing cream and petrol blue interiors at the newly opened Olives & Plates inside the stylishly luxurious Embassy Towers apartment block in Sandhurst.
Among our favourite things to do in spring, eating and drinking al fresco tops the list. Luckily, outdoor dining takes on a new meaning at Olives & Plates – Embassy. Upon stepping inside the restaurant, you’ll be captivated by the elegant and alluring space prettied with cream tiles, petrol blue velvet couches, gold light fixtures and vases of fresh blooms throughout. However, the pool deck is really what gives it a wow factor.
Grab a table outside on the deck, which looks the background of an influencer’s dream ’grams, and get ready to order up some thirst-quenching summer drinks. In our opinion, there’s no better wine to sip while basking in the sunshine than La Motte Sauvignon Blanc. The restaurant has a superb cocktail and wine list that celebrates all the favourites. If you’re keen for something a bit more extravagant with your meal, there are some lovely champagnes and sparkling wines too.
Olives & Plates is known for dishing up premium tapas in glam surroundings, so you simply have to start with a few ‘Little Plates’ – the grilled calamari, grilled chicken skewers, kataifi-wrapped halloumi and falafels. Moving onto mains, classic lunch fixings include the sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas, beautifully presented salads, grills, burgers, souvlakis and pastas. Don’t turn your nose up at the thought of salads – these aren’t your bogus lunchtime leaves. Each salad is packed with local produce and ancient grains, from the dukkah, quinoa, almond-crusted chicken and brinjals salad, to the halloumi, spinach, dates and avo salad.
Feeling extra hungry? Swap your salad bowl for the 200g teriyaki salmon or the 250g fillet, both of which we highly recommend. Each dish is served with your choice of carrot and potato mash, sweet potato chips, chips, salad, baby potatoes or roasted vegetables. The salmon, best served seared, is a real winner – it’s flaky, juicy and packed with punchy flavour. The fillet is a close second and goes down a treat with a side of black pepper sauce.
We can almost guarantee that you won’t have space for dessert after indulging in one of these dishes, but a trip to Olives & Plates is never complete without a visit to their ‘Display of Temptation’ cabinet. Take your pick of a selection of freshly baked cakes to take home with you and enjoy later. As if this isn’t enough reason to reserve a table for your next breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner date with the girls or that special someone, the service is faultless – the waiters are knowledgeable and sincere and the hands-on management from the owners doesn’t go unnoticed – and the value for money is impeccable for what you get. Olives & Plates – Embassy gets a 10 out of 10 all round from us!
